ES Adaptive at DSUK Skiathon’s
The DSUK (Disability Snowsport UK) Skiathon took place last week at 5 of the UK Snowdomes and ES Adaptive Manager Sam, helped out at two of them, Milton Keynes (11th June) and Hemel Hempstead (12th June).
The Skiathon involved teams of up to 6 people to ski as many runs as they could in 6 hours! Each team had to raise a minimum sponsorship of £666 and with it being the London Olympic’s this year, depending upon how much they raised determined the number of runs their team had to do and their goal for the day i.e. 312, 612, 1012, 2012.
“Both Hemel and MK Skiathons ran extremely smoothly and were SUPER fun! The days consisted of a morning of skiing from 10.00 – 1.00pm with an hours break for lunch before an afternoon of skiing from 2.00 – 5.00pm.” Sam Colby, ES Adaptive
Sam had plenty to do; including counting runs, equipment set up, competitions & skiing games to earn extra points and of course encouraging the teams who were skiing their boots off! As well as all this, they had some Paralympic GB skier turn up for a blast… Sean Rose (www.seanrose.co.uk) and Tim Farr (www.timfarr.co.uk).
All in all it was an all round success with most teams smashing their goals and some skiing over 700 runs!!!
So a HUGE Well Done to all Teams, Organisers and Sam!!

ES Adaptive Manager, Sam Colby and keen snowboarder, Izzi Lock competed in the Verbier Hi-Five event last Saturday. The pair were in a Mountain Man Bi-ski and were the only adaptive participants. They raced in all the categories involving a Skier Cross, Speed Trap and Giant Slalom. Also competing in the event were some famous faces from the snowsports and music industries, including the likes of Didier Cuche, Tina Mazé, Didier Défago, Fränzi Aufdenblatten, Adrien Théaux, Tina Weirather, Alex Fiva, Sanna Lüdi and James Blunt!
The day was a success and went extremely well, although unfortunately the pair did not win any of the categories! They came 116th overall! A party was held at the Carlsverg resuaturnt in the afternoon with the girls ACDC tribute band, Back:N:Black and plenty of delicious food and drink. Later, a Mega Party was held in resort at Pub Mont Fort with the Pros serving yet more drinks and food.
The final results and images are due to be posted shortly on the official Carlsberg Hi-Five website but for now a huge congratulation to both Sam and Izzi!
