As we all know, Verbier is a hotbed for exclusive, unique and exciting services for all its visitors to enjoy, particularly its food and restaurants. Yep, food in Verbier is a big deal, and it’s just about to get more exciting. Being added to the mix for the new year is a brand-new cookery school that will cater to families, foodies and anyone who wants to gain some culinary skills to impress. Obviously, here at ES, we’re passionate about skiing, but we know that sometimes you need a day off, and what better way to spend it than cooking up some culinary delights?
The brainchild of Verbier-based chefs, Cat Sheppard and Amy Corbett, the idea behind Mountain Thyme Cookery School is to provide a fun and innovative dimension to your ski holiday. Or if you’re not skiing, you can take a break from massages, lunches and spa treatments to learn a new skill – or improve your existing ones – in the beauty and tranquillity of the Alps.
Cat has years of experience in the food industry, from cooking in chalets to teaching inner city kids culinary basics, as well as working with game and wild food. Aside from all these varied types of cooking, she also makes a mean wedding cake. Amy is passionate about great food and comes from background in cookbook editing. She became a private chef when she moved to the Alps.
Together they’ve set up Mountain Thyme, Verbier’s first cookery school. It will be running year-round and offering a range of different courses with an emphasis on all styles of cooking. From world food to healthy dinners to family favourites, there’s something for everyone. Weekly courses over the winter will include Perfect Pastry, Swiss Classics and Dinner Party Showstoppers, where you’ll cook up a fantastic spread using fresh, quality, seasonal ingredients. Also on the menu (pun absolutely intended!) are cookery lessons for kids of all ages, as well as longer gap year courses for budding chalet hosts or young adults who want to be prepared for living away from home for the first time. And as we all know, there’s no better place to get acquainted with adult life than Verbier!
Mountain Thyme is ideally located in Verbier town centre and features a state-of-the-art cooking and teaching area, as well as a beautiful dining room and terrace where you can enjoy your creations after a lesson. Each class can hold up to twelve people so you can learn in an intimate but friendly group environment. Whether you’re taking a break from skiing or you prefer to keep your feet on the pavement in comfy shoes, Mountain Thyme’s classes are the perfect way to make your time in the Verbier unforgettable.
As we already mentioned, Cat makes incredible wedding cakes, but she and Amy also run Sheppard’s Pie alongside Mountain Thyme. Sheppard’s Pie is a quality food delivery service that caters to anyone staying in Verbier. Save yourself the hassle of cooking; pick up or have delivered to your chalet delicious dinners, made by Cat and Amy. All you need to do it heat them up.
Cat and Amy can also come to your chalet and cook for you on a private basis, as well as cater for your parties, weddings and other events. They come highly recommended by everyone at ES!
