Klara Gombrii - What Does a Ski Instructor do in Verbier in the Summer?
My First Summer in Verbier
What does a ski instructor do in Verbier in the summer? For me, the answer has been a mix of exploring, studying, travelling and discovering a completely different side of the resort I call home in winter. With the snow gone and the mountains turning green, Verbier becomes a playground of e‑biking trails, hidden footpaths, alpine lakes and long sunny days spent with friends. Between adventures in the Aosta Valley and Chamonix, online university classes, and time with my family in Sweden, this summer has shown me a new Verbier — one that has helped me grow, stay active, and get even more excited for the winter season ahead.
Exploring After the Snow
Verbier is famous for its winters, but summer here has its own magic. I’ve been sharing a place with friends, and we’ve had the best time together — cooking dinners, watching sunsets from the balcony, heading out for spontaneous hikes, and just enjoying being in the mountains without rushing anywhere. There’s something special about living in a ski resort in summer: you get to know it in a completely different way, and you start to understand the landscape beyond the pistes.
We’ve spent evenings wandering through the village, mornings grabbing coffee before heading out on the trails, and plenty of afternoons laughing our way through new adventures. It’s been a summer full of simple moments.
Family Time in Sweden
I also spent part of the summer visiting my family in Sweden. It was lovely to slow down, catch up properly, and share my adventures in Verbier. My family always loves seeing what the Alps look like in summer — the green valleys, the rocky ridges, the lakes that look like they’ve been painted. Sending them pictures from my hikes and bike rides made me feel like they were experiencing it with me.
Being home in Sweden gave me a chance to recharge, study, and enjoy time with the people who know me best. I didn’t work this summer — instead, I took online classes at a Swedish university, which gave me a nice balance between learning and exploring.
E Biking, Hiking and Alpine Adventures
One of the highlights of my summer has been e‑biking. I tried it for the first time and absolutely loved it. It’s such a fun way to explore the mountains — you still get the physical challenge, but you can go further, climb higher, and discover routes you might not attempt on a normal bike. Verbier has some incredible trails, and riding them in summer has opened up parts of the resort I’ve never seen before.
I also travelled around the Alps, exploring the Aosta Valley and Chamonix. Both places are stunning in summer — dramatic peaks, beautiful villages, and endless trails. It felt amazing to see different parts of the Alps and compare them to Verbier. Every valley has its own personality, and discovering them makes you appreciate the whole region even more.
My Favourite Walks
Back in Verbier, I’ve done some of my favourite walks:
Lac des Vaux, with its turquoise water and peaceful atmosphere
The small tracks up to Cabane Mont Fort, which feel wild and remote even though they’re close to the resort
These routes are completely different in summer compared to winter. Without snow, you see the shape of the terrain, the rocks, the plants, the wildlife — everything that lies underneath the pistes. Exploring them has given me a deeper understanding of the mountain, which will help me so much when I’m teaching this winter.
Spending summer in Verbier has made me even more connected to the resort. I’ve learned new routes, discovered hidden areas, and seen how the mountain changes through the seasons. As an instructor, this knowledge is incredibly valuable — the more you understand the terrain, the better you can guide your clients, choose the right runs, and adapt lessons to different conditions.
E‑biking and hiking have also kept me fit, strong and ready for winter. Skiing every day requires stamina, balance and leg strength, and summer in the Alps is the perfect training ground.
Next Stop, Winter
Now, as the days get cooler, I’m really excited to meet the team again, see the first snow, and get back to working on the mountain. I can’t wait to ski with clients every day, help them improve, and share the joy of being in Verbier in winter. After such a great summer, I feel refreshed, motivated and ready for the season ahead.
