    Charlotte Gill: Ski Instructor, Concierge and Events Manager

    Charlotte Gill is an ES ski instructor and Bramble Ski Pro in Verbier over the winter. Yep, she can teach you to ski AND make sure your extra-curricular ski activities run smoothly. Thanks to her excellent organisational skills she spends her summers running high-profile events and weddings at a beautiful venue in Kent. We caught up with her to find out all about it.

    « So, my job in the summer is events management. I mainly work with weddings but I’ve had a couple of TV shows film here as well. We’re based in Preston in Kent – about 15 minutes from Sandwich.

    Charlotte Gill What do ski instructors do in the summer?
    Dog or carousel, which is the main attraction?
    I got a job here one summer working on the bar, and because I enjoyed it so much I kept going back. This meant that I knew quite a lot of the duties the managers had to do already, so when the job opportunity came up I applied straight away. Luckily because the girls knew what a hard worker I was and realised how well I knew the venue, I got the job!
    Now I am in charge of the day-to-day events at the venue. I ensure that the day runs smoothly and has the right amount of staff, who I manage to ensure their time at work is effective. As well as managing the events on the day I also do viewings and meet potential new clients, as well as keeping on top of what maintenance and cleaning needs to be done so the venue is looking its best.
    Charlotte Gill What do ski instructors do in the summer?
    Weddings sure do take a lot of organising.
    We’ve had some pretty interesting events over the past few years! I mainly work weddings and we’ve had some pretty extreme money spent in that area, which is always fun, but I think the ones that stand out the most are when TV shows film here. They usually have a lot of cool extras, like a ferris wheel to go with our carousel, and in general are a lot of fun to work.
    The people I work with are definitely the best part of my job. I work with my friends so we have a great work environment, and the venue is also a family business so they’re always interested in our ideas.

    I would say that ski instructing has really helped with my people skills; people have to trust you if they’re scared to ski and it’s similar when you’re handling someone’s wedding. Building this trust is key in events. Being a Bramble Concierge has also helped me to be more effective with how I manage my tasks. I always felt that I was pretty good at organisation but working as a Concierge for Bramble I’ve learnt that there are more effective ways to be organised which has helped me in the planning stages of various events. »
