After studying sports coaching at college, all Joe wanted was to live in the mountains and share his passion with other people. He has always loved travelling and does as much as he can to experience new cultures and meet new people. He has taught a range of ages and abilities and is able to adapt easily. If it’s your first-time skiing or you just want to brush up your technique then he would love to share his knowledge and experience with you.
Why did you choose to teach skiing?
I’ve always enjoyed introducing people to new sports and then realised I could do it as a job! …bonus!
Why did you choose Zermatt?
After skiing and working in Italy, Japan and the Himalayas I had heard such good things about Zermatt so thought I’d give it a go! Everything about it is great and that’s why it’s my fifth winter here.
What do you do in the summer?
I work as the concierge manager for Zermatt ski chalets. Assisting guests with their pre-arrival arrangements and requirements ready for winter, such as ski instructors, transfers, lift passes and restaurant reservations.
What is your favourite mountain restaurant?
Chez Vrony is my number one! There lamb and fig dish is my favourite. Their sharing platters are great to share with friends and family.
Where is your favourite place to ski?
My number 1 run in Zermatt is number 19; the long, wide run means you can reach Gant quickly to access the great itineraries on Hohtali.
What is your hand tip for visiting Zermatt?
Bring plenty of layers as it can be super cold! An insulated mid-layer and mittens are best for skiing in Zermatt.
