In the winter Hannah Bryans heads up ES Zermatt and spends her time training and examining ski instructors. In the summer she runs Awesome Summer Camp Zermatt which is, as the name suggests, a truly awesome summer camp tailored to provide children of all ages with a fun, exciting and safe mountain experience in Zermatt. We’ll let her explain what it’s all about.
“You might not know it, but Zermatt in the summer has SO MUCH to offer for families. One of the most impressive and iconic locations in the world, it’s surrounded by three of Europe’s highest mountains, the Matterhorn, the Dom and the Monte Rosa, and their stunning glaciers. A traditional farming village lying at the foot of the Matterhorn, Zermatt is traffic-free with a plethora of phenomenal hiking opportunities at its doorstep. It’s easy to explore the area with the Peak Pass (perfect for walkers and those who would like unlimited access to Zermatt’s lift systems), which lets you access the Gornergrat railway, the Klein Matterhorn via Europe’s highest cable car, Schwarzsee Paradise and Rothorn Paradise.
Each weekday comprises of different outdoor activities including, but not restricted to: rock climbing, skiing, clay pigeon shooting, mini golf, beach volleyball, tennis, football, mountain biking, high ropes courses, hiking, and even rafting. Our experienced and qualified camp staff also provide educational workshops covering the Alpine environment, orienteering and navigation, and outdoor survival skills. There is also the option of language learning sessions in the mornings, with our French, German and English tutors.
For seven- to seventeen-year-olds, the activities offered are designed for children who love to be outdoors. Awesome Summer Camp Zermatt aims to get them involved in exploring the Alpine environment, whilst learning key skills along the way. Kids and teenagers will be encouraged to form new friendships with children from around the world, build communication skills and develop a sense of teamwork.
For younger children, we offer a more relaxed programme to include walks, playground fun, baking, tennis, games, crafts and lake days (fishing and picnic!). With a new activity offered each day, summer day camp keeps the little ones entertained and safe while learning new skills. Activities are designed for the “first-time” camper with a variety of activities specially adapted to suit this age group perfectly. We provide an ideal first camp experience for this youngest age-group thanks to gentle guidance from experienced staff. We hire specialised and trained staff members who can perfectly care for the well-being and needs of the younger campers, creating a fun, caring and secure environment.
All our members of staff have been carefully chosen for their aptitude and high level of experience in working with children. In addition to this we use sports experts for most of our activities including skiing, snowboarding, biking, rock climbing, hiking, high ropes, tennis, football, mountain orienteering and map / compass workshops. We maintain a strict ratio of one staff member to six children at all times. And a ratio of one to five for our younger campers under six.
Please get in touch for pricing options and availability. We look forward to hearing from you soon and hopefully seeing you and your family in Zermatt this summer. Families who have skied with European Snowsport in any of our resorts in the past are eligible for a 10% discount, so please let us know!”
